Highland Reel ($5) has contested a similar form line to 2014 Cox Plate champion Adelaide and remains outright favourite to win Saturday’s edition of the race ahead of Winx ($6), Criterion ($6.50) and Kermadec ($8) with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.

Will Highland Reel justify favouritism and win the 2015 Cox Plate or will one of his many talented rivals find the line in the clear?

Arod ($8.50)

British raider Arod has form around some of the world’s best middle distance horses, is dream ideally in barrier 5 and offers exceptional value for money at current Cox Plate odds of $8.50 for success. Returning this year for second in the Group 3 Earl Of Sefton Stakes (1810m) on April 16th, Arod progressed to third in the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes (1600m) before taking out each of the Group 3 Diomed Stakes (1713m) and Group 2 Summer Mile Stakes (1600m). Having finished second to Solow in the Group 1 Sussex Stakes (1600m) most recently, the Teofilo entire will be partnered by leading hoop Craig Williams and will be very hard to beat in the 2015 Cox Plate.

Criterion ($6.50)

Standout local Criterion returned to Australian racing for an impressive win in the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m) a fortnight ago and appears primed for success in the Cox Plate. Returning this year for third in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m), Criterion progressed to second in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) before beating a talented field to the line in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) on Day 2 of The Championships. The Sebring entire proved he was up to the class of some of the world’s best through an impressive trip abroad and will relish the conditions of the Cox Plate.

Highland Reel ($5)

Highland Reel is undoubtedly one of the class horses of the 2015 Cox Plate field and is sure to lay a great account for himself on Saturday. Posting four wins and two minors through nine starts for Aidan O’Brien, the Galileo entire ran second in the Group 1 Prix Du Jockey (2100m) on May 31st; progressing to fifth in the Group 1 Irish Derby (2414m) before taking out each of the Group 3 Gordon Stakes (2414m) and Group 1 Secretariat Stakes (2012m) in succession. Having since finished fifth in the Group 1 Irish Champion Stakes (2012m), 2014 Cox Plate winner Ryan Moore will take the ride on the northern hemisphere three-year-old from barrier 4.
