Aidan O’Brien saddled Adelaide to success in the 2014 edition of the Cox Plate and is set to be offered a great chance of success in the Moonee Valley feature race on Saturday after Highland Reel was confirmed to leave from the ideal barrier 4.

Posting four wins and two minors through nine starts so far, the Galileo colt has been a standout this year, highlighted by a close second in the Group 1 Prix Du Jockey Club (2100m) and success in each of the Group 3 Gordon Stakes (2414m) and Group 1 Secretariat Stakes (2012m).

2014 Cox Plate winner Ryan Moore has been confirmed to take the ride on the colt, who will be very hard to beat.

Arod could very well receive the run of the race from barrier 5 in the 2015 Cox Plate and will be tough to beat on Saturday.

Returning this year for second in the Group 3 Earl Of Sefton Stakes (1810m) on April 16th, Arod continued to impress in running third in the Group 1 Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes (1600m) before taking out each of the Group 3 Diomed Stakes (1713m)  and Group 2 Summer Mile Stakes (1600m).

Having placed second behind Solow in the Group 1 Sussex Stakes (1600m) most recently, Arod will be partnered by leading hoop Craig Williams this weekend.

The local contingent of Cox Plate runners has drawn a number of legitimate chances for success, including Criterion who will leave from the central barrier 7 with Michael Walker aboard on Saturday.

Capping a standout 2014 autumn campaign with consecutive wins in the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) and Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m), Criterion was unable to return to the same racing highs through a consistent spring campaign but ended his year third in the major Group 1 Hong Kong Cup (2000m) in December.

Returning this year for third in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m), Criterion ran a close second in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1600m) before delivering a very smart field to defeat in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) on Day 2 of The Championships.

Having returned from an impressive trip abroad for success in the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m) a fortnight ago, the Sebring entire will be very hard to beat on Saturday in current form.

Godolphin stable mates Complacent and Hartnell are positioned well in barriers 6 and three respectively, while The Cleaner should have no issues finding the fore of the field early from barrier 2.

Only two barriers are yet to produce a Cox Plate winner in 12 and 14; Mourinho and Fawkner charged with overcoming those hoodoos in Saturday’s feature race.
