Arguably the world’s current-most in-form runner over 2000, Hong Kong sensation Dan Excel has been confirmed in Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) first acceptances.

Securing a commendable six wins and thirteen places from 36 competitive starts so far, Dan Excel has without doubt hit career-best form in 2014 and is likely to receive the ideal lead-in to the 2014 Cox Plate after arriving in quarantine ahead of the pack, two months ago.

Charging home to finish second in the Listed Steward’s Cup (1600m) in Hong Kong first-up on January 19th, the Shamardal gelding continued to impress but was unlucky to finish in the minor places in all of the Listed Hong Kong Gold Cup (2000m), Listed Silver Jubilee Cup (1400m) and Group 1 Champions Mile (1600m).

Breaking through for an impressive win in the Group 1 International Cup (2000m) at Singapore’s Kranji Racecourse most recently on May 18th, Dan Excel is yet to be confirmed for a specific path leading up to the Cox Plate, but is likely to jump favourite in the Moonee Valley feature on October 25th.

Also confirmed in first acceptances for the 2014 Cox Plate is standout autumn performer and kiwi raider Silent Achiever.

Claiming ten wins and five minor places from her 27 competitive starts, Silent Achiever has returned to the track in career best form this year; wining the Retina Eye Specialists Handicap (1500m) first-up before claiming three impressive victories at the highest level of racing back-to-back; taking out each of the Group 1 New Zealand Stakes (2000m), Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) and Group 1 The BMW (2400m).

Returning to the paddock after finishing fourth in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m), the O’reilly mare was impressive when fourth in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) first-up and is a great chance of success in the Cox Plate, should she accept.

Arguably leading the local charge in Cox Plate first acceptances, Criterion has also hit career-best form in 2014; highlighted by two Group 1 titles.

Finishing a credible fourth in the Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes (1400m) first-up on February 15th, Criterion charged home to finish an impressive second in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) on March 1st, but appeared out of sorts when finish eighth in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) a fortnight later.

Allocated a central barrier for the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) on March 29th, the Sebring entire was blocked for a run and checked early, but recovered to secure a maiden Group 1 victory; repeating the dose in the Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m) a fortnight later.
