2012 Cox Plate Field & Barriers – More Joyous Draws 11

October 23rd, 2012

The 2012 Cox Plate will run at Moonee Valley Racecourse this Saturday October 27, 2012, and here you will find the latest final field and barrier draw information for the race.

Gai Waterhouse has drawn barrier 11 for champion mare More Joyous in a move that shocked those not associated with her successful racing stable.

However, Waterhouse felt that 11 was the right choice for the talented mare, who has not started from a barrier as wide as 11 since October last year.

On that occasion, she placed a disappointing seventh in the Group 1 Myer Classic.

The six-year-old will be looking to recover from an unexpected loss in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap last start, where she finished fourth behind Solzhenitsyn.

More Joyous has won 21 of her 29 race starts and has earned more than $4.49 million in prize money during her horse racing career.

Green Moon has drawn barrier five for the 2012 Cox Plate, which is a barrier that sits well with jockey Craig Williams.

“I’ve never been so nervous for a barrier draw,” Williams said.

“(I’m) very very comfortable with having gate 5.”

Williams feels Green Moon is the horse that can win him his second consecutive 2012 Cox Plate win.

“I’ve done all the work on him. I couldn’t be more comfortable with Green Moon going into the Cox Plate,” he said..

“When I first worked the horse, I felt he could win a cox plate on his work eight weeks ago.

“If I wanted to go to war with a horse, I’d go to war on Green Moon.”

Last start Caulfield Guineas winner, All Too Hard, is also part of the 2012 Cox Plate final field and barrier draw.

All Too Hard will jump from barrier three in the 2012 Cox Plate, which will suit the three-year-old according to co-trainer Wayne Hawkes.

“You can always have the best horse in this race but you need a bit of luck,” Hawkes said.

“This is the race that is going to make one of them the elite.”

Race favourite Pierro has drawn barrier seven for the 2012 Cox Plate, which has been the most successful barrier draw in the race’s history with 11 winners.
