Bart Cummings’ reigning Cox Plate champion So You Think is the red hot favourite to make it back-to-back wins in the premiere weight-for-age showdown this spring, bookies slashing their odds on the four-year-old in the 2010 Cox Plate betting.
So You Think burst onto the scene 12 months ago winning the 2009 Cox Plate and has not put a hoof wrong since.
The High Chaparral four-year-old resumed racing in the Memsie Stakes in late August, beating Whobegotyou and showing he had lost none of his steam.
The weight-for-age star then made it consecutive Group 1 wins in the Underwood Stakes and last Saturday’s Yalumba Stakes causing bookies to slash his price to win the 2010 Cox Plate at Moonee Valley on October 23.
So You Think coasted to victory in the Yalumba at Caulfield on Saturday, running his rivals ragged with a three length win over a gallant Alcopop and a fading Whobetoyou.
Before Saturday So You Think was paying $2.40 to become this year’s Cox Plate winner, but huge money has since come in for him cutting his odds to $1.65.
So You Think is now set to start as the shortest-priced favourite in the Cox Plate field since Lonhro in 2003.
Beaten by five lengths in the Yalumba, the Mark Kavanagh-trained Whobegotyou has now drifted out from the $6 second favourite to the fourth line of Cox Plate betting now paying $13.
A mouth watering Cox Plate field is also set to feature Gai Waterhouse’s classy mare More Joyous, who leapfrogged Whobegtyou in the Cox Plate betting to become the $7.50 second favourite after her gritty Toorak Handicap win on Saturday at her Melbourne debut.
More Joyous posted her 10th career win from 13 starts in the Toorak, her eighth straight victory boosting her claims in this year’s Cox Plate.
The 2010 Cox Plate field will feature 18 top gallopers, the final acceptors released next Tuesday October 19.
