2010 Cox Plate Field Features 49 Following Second Declarations

September 22nd, 2010

The number of horses fighting for a spot in the 2010 Cox Plate field this spring has been narrowed down to 49 after second declarations were taken for the weight-for-age feature on Tuesday.

Since first declarations at the start of the month, 40 horses have dropped out of contention for the $3 million Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on October 23.

Significant omissions from the 2010 Cox Plate second declarations include injured duo out for the spring Heart Of Dreams and Largo Lad, Moudre who has the Caulfield Cup as their main aim, top three-year-old Toorak Toff and Bart Cummings’ Faint Perfume.

Cummings still has three Cox Plate contenders after paying up for Dariana, Allez Wonder and the raging favourite So You Think.

Choosing not to accept So You Think for the 2010 Caulfield Cup Second Declarations, also released yesterday, Cummings will be happy to see the punters and bookies backing So You Think to claim consecutive Cox Plates.

So You Think leads the betting at a short quote of $2.50 through Sportsbet, followed by Whobegotyou at $6 and equal $10 third-favourites Shoot Out and More Joyous.

The 2010 Cox Plate final field of acceptances will be released on October 19 and to stay up-to-date with the latest news and developments in the meantime bookmark this page.
