2010 Cox Plate Draws 186 Nominations

August 3rd, 2010

An exciting collection of 186 turf champions have been nominated for the 2010 Cox Plate, one of the premier Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival events.

The 2010 Tatts Cox Plate is scheduled to run on Saturday October 23 as the premier race conducted at Moonee Valley and with so many classy nominees the Cox Plate final field is shaping up to be a cracker.

Early favourites to become the 2010 Cox Plate winner from the list of nominated entries include last year’s winner So You Think, fellow Bart Cummings-trained stablemate Faint Perfume, reigning Melbourne Cup champion Shocking and the in-form Shoot Out.

Four other horses are back again after contesting the 2009 Cox Plate besides So You Think, they are Whobegotyou, Zipping, Rock Kingdom and Heart of Dreams.

There will be a strong international contingent making its way to Melbourne this spring also, but the chance of the Cox Plate final field containing an overseas runner suffered a blow earlier this week with the injury enforced retirement of Gloria De Campeao.

Still, a number foreign horses are amongst the Cox Plate entries including consistent Hong Kong-trained galloper Able One and Britain’s Sans Frontieres.

With the 2010 Cox Plate nominations now out it is only a matter of days before bookmakers across the country including Ladbrokes.com.au open their ante-post Spring Carnival markets, so stay tuned for our betting tips, previews and up-to-date odds.

Weights for the Cox Plate will be declared on October 19 at 12:00pm followed by the announcement of the final field of acceptances on October 21 at 9:00am.

Today the 2010 Melbourne Cup nominations and the 2010 Caulfield Cup entries were also announced.
